"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not."

A billowing mass of thick, black smoke,
Arising from the bush,
Fire-fighters try to stop it,
But the fire continues to push.

As the flames lick at the trunks,
And leap from tree to tree,
They look to be dancing,
Tossing their heads in glee.

The heat and searing winds are intense,
Blowing amongst the flame,
And the night has an earthly glow,
To which the fire’s colour is the same.

But it seems to be the tragic bushfires,
That everyone remembers,
And those who are lost in the fire,
Float away with the embers.

The author's comments:
Recently, the New South Wales Bushfires have affected large areas of local regions and destroyed numerous homes. Fire-fighters have made a huge effort to control these blazes, but unfortunately, some fires get out of hand and spread out of control. I feel that these bushfires are a part of nature that are really quite breath taking. Although they are very tragic, and can be life threatening, these fires are really quite magnificent. I wanted to create my poem about these fires that are now heard of across the nation.
