The Unexpected
Hidden away in a little box
Under lock and key
Protected a broken and shattered girl’s heart
That no one did ever see
She guarded that box with all that she had
Pushed every suitor away
No matter their intentions, she didn't care
She wouldn’t give them the time of day
One day though, she thought to herself
"Why is loneliness all that I know?"
She longed for someone to steal her heart
But she would never let it show
She created in her mind the perfect man
Which was who she envisioned her lover
The perfect example in every way
Who by far surpassed every other
With the blondest of hair
And brown eyes did she see
A good family life, a must
She had it all down to a tee
She searched and she searched
But without any success
It seemed she would never ever find
The one to cause butterflies in her chest
And then did appear a man
But he, she had already known
In ways they were so undeniably alike
Both terrified of being alone
He was no stranger at all
For years he had been vying for her heart
Always fearful to give anyone a chance
She had purposely kept them apart
With those brilliant blue eyes
And hair ever so dark
He was far from her vision
But they both felt that spark
Not from a good home in the slightest
He had quite the troublemaker's soul
But they hit it off so quickly
Shared their every dream and goal
The closer they grew
The harder she fell
There was no way to deny
It was love that she felt
Although not what she thought she had wanted
He was what she did need
The way he made her feel;
Better than any fairytale one could read
It just goes to show
Don't judge a book by its cover
Sometimes you must take a chance
In order to find your perfect lover
