Battle Scars

Battle scars, from my past,
Remind me of when I fought last,
Battling my sorrow with pain,
But that has brought me no gain,
People look at me and say,
They can see my scars as clear as day,
They ask me why I do not hide,
But they don’t know all the tears I’ve cried,
These battle scars they line my flesh,
Just show all my sins to confess,
I’m proud of them nothing to cover,
I’m past it, I’ve gotten over,
Judged by the world, they laugh at me,
I still won’t hide; I want to be free,
Battle scars still keep me strong,
When I look at them I know I was wrong,
A silent reminder to keep me alive,
I don’t want to die, I want to live,
Battle scars, my forever friend,
Battle scars, always till the end,

This is about how I view my self inflicted scars as something to keep me strong and to be proud that I made it through that rough time.
