Counting Sheep
There’s a girl across the street
With curly hair and bright green eyes
She plays with dolls in the sink
And chases boys on the playground
She wears Velcro shoes
That tear when she tugs on them
Because she can’t tie them herself
And they always come undone
She can’t sleep with the door shut
Because there’s monster under the bed
She saw once in a movie they’d leave
If she counted sheep in her head
Her mom left her fairy dust
Sprinkled on a napkin
With smiley faces and I love you’s
Folded up inside a paper bag
But the curls became looser
And the Velcro fell apart
The door smacked shut
And the ink faded
