Blue

A single butterfly
Fluttered by
So quietly it flew
Out the girl’s window
Into the sun
Her wings silk and blue

Her heart watched
The girl asleep
And her mother at her side
Sweet blue eyes
Not scared to sleep
As her mother cried

Deep breaths filled
The little girl
Her chest puffed out and in
Her eyes still
Her heart warm
Not ready to begin

A single butterfly
Fluttered by
Shimmering in the light
Up and down
Sweet blue wings
“Do not lose this fight”

The girl wasn’t scared
But very brave
She would not shed a tear
Fly high
Little one
She never showed her fear

The family watched
The butterfly
Alone as it flew
Towards the clouds
She danced along
A small speckle of blue

A single butterfly
Fluttered by
Her wings speaking words
To heal hearts
And mend minds
“Keep moving forward”

Never lose sight
Never lose hope
Keep your eyes alive
We are waiting
She is watching
As her wings flutter by

The girl spoke scarcely
A deafening silence
She watched the girl speak
Slowly, sweetly
Softly stirring
“I am strong, not weak”

A single butterfly
Fluttered by
So quietly it flew
Hope it spread
Love it filled
“We will never forget you”

“This will certify that the enclosed work is completely original”
