The War
Tomorrow I head off into the dawn,
I fight the war I've fought for so long,
At night comes rest,
At sleep comes those left,
The war is fought every day,
Against all those who say,
“Who are you to try?
To try and stay alive?”
Some succumb to those,
And the rest are left barely alive,
It is a struggle, every day,
To fight so hard, but never stray,
And catch yourself in their words,
That tear you from limb to limb,
It leaves scars on your body,
And burns on your skin,
Words become arrows,
Piercing your dream,
Swords are the dungeon they lock you in,
Shields are what keep you from falling,
Helmets the words that stop the dying,
Chain mail is your friends,
Arrows, swords, and knives leave their marks on your skin,
And only night brings solace,
And dreams keep you safe,
And still the war affects you,
Poisons your only hopes,
Steals your sleep,
And starts killing you from within,
Turns you against yourself,
And makes you suffer,
Until you admit defeat,
And ask to be like those lost,
The ones who've fallen down,
Never to rise again,
From that holy ground,
You believe you shield is weak,
Your armor's not that strong,
And when that sword comes toward you,
You don't move at all.
