The Easiest Lie

You say "It's Ok"
and for a second,
i believe you,
and for a moment,
we're both stars again,
too high to know
of the fires below
that melted your snowy smile.
But then i see
the river valleys
carved out along your cheeks,
where pain had once cascaded
like gentle drops of rain.
And all too soon,
i remember that "ok",
is the easiest lie,
in a world where "how are you",
is just a way to pass the time.
