"That's the thing about pain. It demands to be felt." -John Green

He's on the ground
Crying, wrists aching from the pain
That consists more in his soul than his brain
You text him
"Where were you?"

He cleans up
Pushing away the thoughts, that tell him
That he needs to toughen up
That he's stupid
That he's worthless

Collecting himself
He replies to you
"I'm fine, couldn't make it"

She sighs
She's angry, she waited forever for this
She's disappointed.

You fight.

He sobs
He's broken
He tries to call you and apologize
He tries to tell you that he's a screw up and he's sorry

You ignore him

His heart is broken
But he masquerades on with the smile plastered on his face
And a blade in his pocket

A few weeks have passed
You come to your senses and call him
He doesn't answer

You go to his door and knock-

The door swings open.

You see the house in perfect condition
And head towards the bathroom

Bloods in the sink
The cabinets open, pill bottles missing

That's when you see him
In the tub
With a slash on each wrist
Foam coming out of his mouth
And a note on his chest

With 3 words
"Where
Were
You"

I hope that from this, people realize that suicide/depression in men/boys, exists. That you cannot toughen up, or make it go away with ease and that it is a real thing. That suicide in general is a big deal, and that if your child or loved one is suddenly sad and sleeping a lot. Hug them, wrap your arms around them tight and never let them go, tell them that you adore them, give them a cookie even- It's the little things that matter.
