Breaking
There’s only so hard you can push us
Before we start to break
Why all the harsh punishments?
For first time mistakes
Work harder, work longer
Be smarter be stronger
Our own thoughts can wait
We can give but we can’t take
Who wrote these rules?
You realise this too late
You push us
Until you push us away
You wonder why we write our thoughts on walls
Maybe you might listen to words five feet high and scrawled
In loud red
Or the crackle of a burning building instead
We want out
If you trusted us we could fly
But we are kites, you pull the strings
You hold us back
Then wonder why we break things
Imagination? Unsafe
Creativity? Waste of space
You push us
Until you push us away
