My New Home Sweet Home
My home sweet home
In Dallas, Texas
With my mother and father
And my pet dog too
A place to laugh,
To cry, to play,
To work, to eat,
To sleep to talk
In 2005, on March 15th
Papa and mama, my pet dog and I
Moved to our new home in Dallas, Texas
It was on Beverly Drive
Back in New York, where I used to reside
I had many good friends and many best friends
We hung out together all day or all night
It was seemed like paradise with all my friends
I used to live in a high-rise apartment
Across from Central Park on Central Park West
My home was small; in fact very minute
But a home sweet home to me
But it was time to part in 2005
We were going to move to the Dallas area
I wanted to stay, stay back in New York
But I was forced to go, no matter how long I pouted
I felt so anxious, if I moved to Dallas
What if our family lived next to despicable neighbors?
What we lived in a high crime area?
What if there were gangs, creeping around at night?
I wanted neighbors, ones that were polite and marvelous
I wanted to live in a safe neighborhood
I wanted no gangs, no robbers, no criminals
But those were only wants that I only wished for
But it turns out, my wishes were granted
Our neighbors were polite, in fact, amiable
Our neighborhood was not filled with crime
And there were no gangsters, no fugitives, no convicts
When we moved into our new home in Dallas,
The whole neighborhood threw a block party
I got to meet some well- behaved kids
Ones that had manners and dressed fancy too
The party was ineffable and exhausting!
Laughter filled the party; harmony rang
Kids ran around; adults exchanged talks
I felt I belonged to this utopian community
I made tons of friends that partied that day
They gave me gifts like a card or book
I made new good friends and new best friends
I had good times with these kids on my block
I feel grateful to have moved here to Dallas
I liked my neighborhood, the peace and the quiet
This street wasn’t busy, unlike New York
Where it would be noisy and filled with honks and beeps
I like my new home, my new home sweet home
It is in fact bigger than my New York apartment
I sometimes yearn for my previous dwelling
But I prefer my new home sweet home
