Downpour
The rain plunges to the earth in a calming downpour,
The clear drops of water making it impossible to see.
My windshield wipers, moving at a thunderous pace,
Cannot keep up with the gum ball sized tears from above.
The road is an unseen river this moon filled night.
Full of hidden puddles and barely visible traffic lights.
Cars walk around the pavement with a feared look in their eyes.
Drivers concentrated, search for their destination.
Worried about getting lost, I look for signs to the highway
I’ve never been so distractedly focused in my life.
The signs are like footprints in a mystery case,
They will lead the way.
My vision is that of an old loyal dog,
Very hard to see anything at all.
The rain constantly spits water,
Like a baseball player in mid June.
“What did I get myself into?”
