She crept cautiously and quietly down the gloomy hallway.
Doors lined up on either side.
It was a cold winter night,
she could feel the cold under her skin,
even inside.
Her whole body a numbing singe as she peers around the next corner.
Two guards stood only ten feet away.
Even from there she could tell they were strong,
towering over like twin oak trees.
Overbearingly wired to kill.
Both turned toward the opposite way.
Daring to take one step she shouldn’t have.
Crunch!
It rang through the hall like a Chinese gong.
That one mistake signaling the guards to check the scene.
Slamming her back against cool,
hard cement she waits.
Heart pounding.
About to burst.
The slight draft from the vents,
whispering in her ears.
Footsteps get louder and louder,
closer and closer.
She takes one last deep breath before two pairs of glowing green eyes
stare her down.
Adrenaline courses through her like a river up current as she swings for a punch, knowing,
she will have to fight for her life.
