Dear Berlin
The fence is the only thing
separating me,
from my family
in West Berlin.
That dreaded fence.
Zooming of German helicopters,
as they rush towards me
I panic,
without thinking,
my hands sink into the dry, crumbly dirt.
I frantically dig my way under,
that dreaded fence.
“I’m going home.”
I mutter over and over.
German Army soldiers,
getting closer
As I get further under enemy lines,
crawling around under
that dreaded fence.
Finished creeping under,
that dreaded fence.
Time to run,
faster than the speed of light.
All of a sudden,
Boom!
The sound bleeds in my ear.
Its hits me like a wrecking ball.
I crash to the frigid ground,
close my eyes.
That beautiful white light,
I see in the distance.
Dear Berlin,
Please remember me.
