Windows
the portholes openly conceal our family's life
the heavy curtains hang; navy seals staying alert
my parents teach the concealing power of drapes drawn over open windows
their advice, like all else, a contradiction
the blinds offer no escape from the outside world
sometimes I wish to be a child again
maybe then it would be easy to forget everything with the drop of a shade
if only it were that simple
and yet, the sounds streaming in through the hidden windows make it impossible to disappear inside.
