A Friend's Story

A trip, a fall;
These things,
They happen to us all.
A smeared cupcake,
A turned ankle;
These matters are naught;
Just think,
A story.
Russian nesting dolls,
Made of what else,
But human skin?
A tzar who has stock
In a slave trade,
Coming into Russia
From Indonesia;
The traders
Take the skin
Of the enslaved,
When they fall on
The long northern march.
A smile, a laugh;
These are the things
That we must treasure.
An insane story,
Made up
By an insane friend;
A friend,
A friend who cares.
