I Come From
I Come From
I come from drinking kool-aid out of jars
from playing tag in corn fields
I come from hot summer days
with only a ceiling fan
from waking up to
the smell of
homemade apple pie
and the sound of laughter
everywhere
I come from Talladega, Alabama
a small city
with big sugar canes
from moving to Detroit
leaving my friends behind
but not the memories
I come from living in a small house
by a big field on a street
called Greenview
from neighbors cutting grass everyday
from having fun in the yard
with my sisters and brother
getting wet with sprinklers
all day in the summer
that’s were I came from.
