Timeless
He lies on a white sheeted bed,
cords dangling from multiple areas.
Monitors beep, nurses speak,
and you sit quietly.
He is not awake and he is not well.
Despite his pale, boney structure,
he is a fighter.
You sit patiently, waiting for any sign
of health from the near lifeless body,
just inches from your own.
Seconds seem like hours.
You close your eyes to pray,
and when you open them,
he is awake.
He shifts his head slowly to look at you,
and he smiles and whispers,
"everything will be okay."
