think of city lights and your favourite song:
Tell me all the words
stuck between the gaps of your fingers
and why why why
why on earth it is so hard to believe
people when they whisper ‘you’re so beautiful it’s deadly’
in your china-cup ear at the hours of the morning
where only bad or life-changing things are born
inside of.
wash your palms of those secrets
rest them inside my rib-cage
instead.
(you’re far too young to
carry so much weight.)
tell me what it is you want to hear and
i’ll scream it at dawn over over over again
until it cuts through my throat
and you smile.
i’d like to put out one of my reds
right below your collar-bone
one day
because
i met a girl once that said
she thought cigarette burns were beautiful,
(beauty should be bundled together in inexplicable, simple, punctuating ways)
and the way she laughed that night made
every word she’ll ever say
true.
will you please think of me
when your veins feel heavy
and clotted with the sort of thoughts
that swallow you whole
through the loneliest week of the year.
i promise i’ll know
the nights when we’re both
looking up into the sky
at the same star and
i’ll sing you love songs french songs smiths songs
even if you’re too far from my voice
to even know i did.
don’t let her punch holes through your heart not even
when she tells you she loves you and
especially not
willingly.
promise me promise me promise me please
(i know you know who ‘her’ is even if
i never will.)
you’re so beautiful it’s deadly.
i love everything about you.
