Street Lights
I watched the street lights turn off this morning.
I’ve always wanted to see that.
To witness the night life turning in
and the early morning people
getting out.
But that’s not what it was at all.
They just turned off,
one then two.
There was no night life
hustling inside before the sun shone overhead,
there were no early morning people
sprinting to their cars to get to work.
Everything was silent,
serene.
When the street lights go out,
for just a little while,
everything is how it should be.
