Room 1001 Bed 1

10 names
assigned with numbers
are written on the wall
ugly and obscene
a pockmark
in this otherwise
sterile sancturary
The buzz of pornographic words
Linger in the hum
of hospital air
Everyone has their story
But no one wants to share
The reasons for that look
from a face
with no soul
Haldol takes the place
of a blanket and a doll
Such a scary situation
and you're only eight years old
Lithium Bipolar
A normal day to day routine
for the older ones
with eyes of ghosts
The only defense is being mean
dry minds
from pills and tears
jaded stares
craving nicotine
The sweetest stain
of our old addictions
Silver,black, green
an oh so familiar itch
The over bleached robes
Television does our thinking
as we choke down their lies
and terrible food
Look! a new diagnoses
or is it the same one
with prettier anasthetics
Will these be the ones
that will erase the nightmares
that swarm like flies in our heads
Breathing becomes a chore
The sour milk roomate
Sleeps most of the time
She cries out the window
Why can't you?
When she swallows the rest
of you in her hug
You take in those beetle brows
mona lisa smiles
You hate her
But you try to be sincere
Days.. weeks?
Snow covers the plexiglass windows
Do you remember your name
Is it hidden behind
The abstract paint
The tile you didn't want
Bearing any part of you
You don't belong here
Tell yourself everyday
Despite the ladders
crawling up your arms
