Swimming

September 19, 2013

Bare foot breaks through
still surface of water,
like a piece of pastel paper on horizon.
It ripples on contact,
evading incoming stranger.

Influx of liquid ice
Enliven senses.
Arms push forward,
Struggle for normality.
Heart inflames,
Rises in delight
As body moves slowly into acceptance.
Rough paper softens.
Mother earth opens her arms.

Lake becomes body.
Half submerged head floats
Like a bird drenched in sunset.
Life opens up.
