"Writers aren't exactly people...they're a whole bunch of people trying to be one person." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

Crunch,
Furry boots trudging, kicking
through the over-sized comforter blanketing the streets.
Squish,
Dampened jean cuffs raise goosebumps and chills,
dry skin flushed red underneath.
Huff,
Labored breaths awaken numb hands
that hide in insulated pockets.
Whoosh!
Massive gusts of whistling wind,
toss the icy mess onto poorly covered heads.
Jingle,
festive lights flicker over a line of “Open” signs
as “Santa” shivers at the corner’s end.
“Taxi!”
Tires screech and slip through the slush,
and horns form a chorus as the rat-race slows.
“Mmmm.”
Outdated, canned soup scalds the tongue,
and a roaring fire breaks December’s curse.

This was my response to a school prompt that asked to write a poem about seasons.
