I put my self esteem in those words, my hope in your feelings- the ones that suddenly emerged.

You told me I was smart, kind, and pretty. No matter the self restraint those words will make any girl giddy
You said you'd wait for me, that was your plan...
that made me think you valued not just the idea of me, but who I truly am.
I believed you, you had me fooled.
After all that, you expected me to follow your rules?

You told me you wanted me,
and that you needed me to be truly happy
There was an excuse, some kind of hold up
I guess I never really was good enough
You told me everything I wanted to hear, you convinced me I finally thought happiness was near
