The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. ~Mark Twain

I watch the struggle from a distance
A bird with a broken wing
Should I help? I questioned myself
I see him resting in a pool of blood
Should I clean the feathers?
I start towards him
He starts towards the edge
I see him look out into the sky so I got closer
Then I saw him jump
He was airborne for a second
Briefly I saw the freedom
I saw his pain
Then I saw him fall
I looked over the edge and saw him fall to the ground
Like my spirit
Shattered on the rocky floor below
For a second I wanted to jump to
I wanted to feel free
But I was afraid
Afraid to take that final step
Afraid to continue on to bigger things.
However,I am no longer afraid.
I look to the edge once again
I see a future.
One more step
One more right choice
I am over the edge now
Moving forward through the path
A beginning,
a journey on towards love, towards life, towards my new destination.
