Dependency
If “all that is gold does not glitter”,
then why should I shine?
Why, if I am not searching for a soul of greed,
should I try to catch your eye
by positioning the sun to ricochet
off of my shimmering flesh
to burn through the bloodshot and dilated entrance
to your rotting soul?
Or rather, why does my own clean, pure heart ache
for you to turn your eye to me?
Why do I need to glow in the heat of your filthy gaze
In order to be golden?
For right now, in this moment,
I want to be worth something.
(No, anything)
