I am a mouse
Nervously, I stand on the edge of every situation
Wringing my paws,
Twitching my whiskers anxiously
I yearn to scurry under the table
To scoop up a crumb or two
Perhaps nibble on some leftover dessert,
But there is something that always stops me
Is it the loud obtrusive voices?
The booming foot steps?
I suppose I’ll never know.
My stomach tightens,
My little legs go numb
I turn around,
Mouth watering for a little flavor,
And return to the darkness of my hideaway.
