You have taught me so much
You sweet little boy
How to endure and withstand
And love others with joy

you have shown me that it is right
to forgive and move on
though others have hurt you
without understanding why it is wrong

the scars on your small frame
tell the story of neglect
how your body just withered
and your soul became wrecked

your parents
whom birthed you
and were meant to act as protectors
would just stare at your needs in puzzlement
until , finally, one day
the authorities sent an inspector

and then you were pulled out of
your mother’s tightening arms
and taken in secret
to one who knows how to properly express love

but you were so weak
little boy
from those months of distress
that for those first few days, for every waking moment
your body screamed in protest

but you held on
you stubborn little boy
because you knew that this chapter of your short life would soon be long gone

because ,at last you, are home
you feel love in a way
that nourishes and helps you develops
you every day

and though the woman you now call ‘Mommy”
did not carry you in her womb
it is clear that from joy you bring her
she has always been waiting for you

this is about an adorable little foster child who i used to help care for as part of my college program's community service. Baby M- was taken traumatically away from his biological family because his birth parents neglected him to the point of abuse
this poem tells the story of this child's inspirational strength to overcome his early challenges and how it has changed me as a person.
note baby M- is now being cared for by a loving foster family who are in the process of adopting him
