In the Dark
It swallows you
At first gradually
Then it consumes you whole
And you find yourself under its shadow that’s blanketing around you
It spins you over and over again
Until you close your eyes and give in to its pain
Pain turns into ache
Ache turns into sorrow
Sorrow turns into numbness
Numbness can be treated
But it always comes back for another serving
Sleeves and makeup can cover the surface
Until the darkness swoops inside you and rips you of your identity
Controls you like a puppet
Whose every move is forced and every aspect is painted
Where the simple things can no longer be done, a hole is carved
The audience observes attentively, so very carefully
The critics memorize all the faults
Time takes its toll and the hype dies down
People come and go
Critics find their stories
The show is never ending
And there are no curtains to close
Eventually the darkness becomes your only companion
The only shelter to hide in
The only blanket wrap yourself around
The only pillow to lay your head on
And the only late night thought to cling to
