Letter From A Father To A Son
Your bike
Was left out
In the rain
Last night.
I needed the shed
For my garden tools,
You see,
I’m sorry
It must be twisted
In disappointment
Rusted
And tired and strained
Lying on the bricks
The front wheel pointing up towards the thick clouds
Like it’s praying to God
My son
I’ll try to take better care
Of your belongings
When you’ve gone away
To college
Or to a better life
As a newfound adult
Leaving me behind
With twisted metal
And pious tires
And a rusted old tool kit
In the weed-infested garden.
