A Reflection of the Heart

An eternity of mirrors stares back
Reflections and ambitions only felt by one
Hopeful pictures of empty minds
A reflection of the heart

Paper thin dreams
And impossible occurrences
I stand here and wait
for the best days of my life

A fate so close
Yet not even deferred
Take our turns
At blissful joy

Short lived happiness cycles back
A pain only shared by an image
A tear only shed by one
A reflection of the heart

Solidity is weakness
Emotion as well
Content is simply
Too simple

The beauty in simplicity
Does not exist
In this realm
For simplicity is plausible

Enter dreamers
Enter pessimists
For all who step through
Await the same fate

The author's comments:
I wrote this after rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Reading it as a teenager, I now saw the metaphoric value of the Mirror of Erised and that chapter inspired this piece.
