Perfection
Looks ugly next to this homeless man
Breathe stinking of whisky
Clothes ripped and tattered
Him clutching on to the last strand
Eyes whose twinkling lights burned out long ago
It looks ugly next to this suicidal girl
With scars not only on her wrists
But on her heart
Who’s so close to walking off the edge
Because all it takes is one more step
It looks ugly next to this grieving man
Who watched his friends die beside him in war
Who knows they will sing beside him no more
Leaving their uniforms empty
With nothing but air
Perfection is crisp dresses
Laughing smiles
And first snowfalls
You cannot smell the rancid scent of life
It does not exist behind that word
You cannot see reality
Because perfection is a perfect little bubble
Trapping everyone
In a hopeless lie
