7th Grade
My seventh grade teacher's name
 was Mr. Mattheson
 and he thought that I
 was hopeless.

 But I really did try to care
 about the capital to every country
 all the steps in photosynthesis
 and how to graph parabolas,
 and I tried so hard
 to stay awake.

 And Mr. Mattheson, I learned every date
 of all your important battles;
 just like you wanted,
 but you never seemed to notice
 my own war going on inside me.
