I managed to escape
I looked at my eyes
And what I saw was a surprise ¬
My eyes were black and blue
I wondered what I should do
Nobody else knew
I had to lie about my eyes
I had to think of something wise
It was pretty ugly
I’ve never been abused
Some may be amused
But I don’t think it will stop
I feel trapped
Filled with confusion
I know it will do more harm if I tell my family
For example they’ll probably say
“He’s not that type of guy”
If I tell I know I’ll get another pop
And because I’m young
I bite my tongue

I was given an assignment and that assignment was to write a free verse poem promoting social change. I chose violence/ abuse. I think its a ongoing issue, and there needs to be a change.
