Reaches
Carved in the sand
Stands my epitaph
Lapped up by the appendages
Of the sea.
I am the ocean
As the motions of my spirit
Feel the moon's pull
And abide with the tide,
Gliding crystalline
In the dark skeletal light.
The ocean is me
As standing in sway
Of braying tribal horns
And battle cries
Cast in crystal light of the moon,
I feel my own waves swoon,
And reach out achingly toward it,
Only to stretch
An inch closer.
