Countdown
Countdown.
To a birthday,
a holiday,
a celebration,
or the end of an era.
One after the other,
days passing by
just waiting until the countdown is over.
But it's never really over,
is it?
Because if this week there's a birthday,
next week there's a vacation,
and the next a party,
and the next a graduation,
and the next,
and the next,
and the next.
As creatures of time, we bypass the events
and live in the days in between
in which we have something to look forward to.
But years into our future,
we will look back on our lives and think,
"where has the time gone?"
And the answer will be simple:
the time of the in-between
will be so vast
that the black hole of anticipation
will have swallowed
birthdays,
holidays,
celebrations,
and the ends of eras;
so that all that will be left
is the time spent awaiting
the end of our final
countdown.
