The day started much like any other
with a snore and a groan from under the covers.
Then in the blink of an eye everything changed.
A huge red dragon appeared bathed in flame.
The creature belched and then bellowed
yet he seemed a gentle fellow.
I heard a whisper from inside my head,
"Come with me, get out of bed.
We'll chase the dying night.
Climb upon my back, let us take flight."
His skin was sleek and also smooth,
Not what you'd expect. I tell you the truth.
I felt his heaving breath beneath me
and a wild smile filled my face from glee.
Huge silent wings flapped once and then twice
and I felt the fleeing night entice.
It called and crooned
it begged us to play.
We were now beneath the wide eyed moon
and it begged us to stay.
we chased the stars and we swam on the wind
The people back home are climbing in cars
and with waking people comes a growing din.
I wont return to that world again
I wont grow up and conform
I will stay forever a boy of only ten
Because that was the nigh I was reborn.
I'm a child of the night
of fireflies and fantasies
and my world is quite the site
this place i'll never leave.
