The Wind Told Me
It was the wind that told me
In case you didn’t know
It carried tales
From foreign lands
Singing songs
Of your graceful departure
It was so swift
They cooed with admiration
So sudden
That the air still rang
With the bittersweet echoes
Of the words they were sure you meant
We had a hapless love
Because no matter how you sheltered me
The wind always slipped through
The crevices between you and I
Flooding them with its poisonous whispers
I’m sincerely apologetic
That I tangled your words like yarn
Weaving them around my fingertips
Destroying them in the process
It’s just the wind always told me
That they would be your last.
