i pull the white bed sheets over
my head and wonder if i could suffocate by
wrapping them tighter
and tighter and

where are you now

i breathe and this room breathes back
pale smoke, fading like dust against
the sunlight that dances in
from the blinds

pretty like the patterns i traced
across your skin

i breathe and i can almost feel
your breath in this silence and my
heart breaks for the
thousandth time

there are words i want to exhale but
i cannot inhale without thinking

of you.
