Reflections
They flutter before my mind,
Remembrance of days behind.
With a touch of sadness but not of tears
I remember long past years,
When life was viewed through a simple mind;
A mind I used to know as mine.
And now my heart drifts to now,
A new chapter begun somehow.
The pages turned so gently on,
I didn’t notice them slipping by ‘till they were gone.
It started when life began;
The first words penned with unpracticed hand,
Every word new and fresh,
Sentences scrawled with earnestness.
And now my heart drifts to now.
Now I look
To future books.
The lines stretch on
Not quite clear to me yet,
With ever and anon
A tearstain or an exclamation point.
My eye falls upon the shelf
Where a Holy Book rests
And gratitude wells in my chest,
That when my book is filled to the very last page,
My Epilogue will last victoriously
On for all eternity.
