We just shared a moment
We just shared a moment
In which you shared with me
An intimate secret
That you had probably never shared before.
And I shared with you
Something that I had never before uttered.
Not to another
And not even to myself in my dreams
Or in front of a mirror.
We just shared a moment
In which we looked out together
Over indigo hills and valleys
Or shivered and drank deeply,
Clutching our mugs of hot cider,
Or sailed across the rippling lake,
And felt the breeze whisper through our hair,
Or shared a beer or a soda
And laughed, or even cried, into the night.
We just shared a moment
And I do not know
If when I pass you on the street
A day or a week or a year from now
You will remember
And give me a smile
Or if I will smile at you
Or if we will merely brush past one another
As strangers.
But in this moment
We felt something together;
Shared a thought
Or a feeling
Or an aspiration
Or a destiny:
A world that was all our own;
Even,
If only,
For a moment. . .
