If I Didn't Know Better
If I didn’t know better,
I’d think you were a right gentleman
Who wants to take me out
And dance to the rhythm of a swing band.
If I didn’t know better,
I’d trust you and your kind smile.
I wouldn’t see right through
To a man who knows romance isn’t his style.
If I didn’t know better,
I’d follow wherever you lead
And wouldn’t think twice
That perhaps I had been deceived.
If I didn’t know better,
I’d think these flowers sweet,
And bury my nose and happy smile
Into the unexpected treat.
If I didn’t know better,
I’d hold and swing your hand
As my innocent eyes danced around the sights
While we journey into this foreign land.
Sometimes I wish I didn’t know better
And that my life could be carefree.
I’d trust easily and love fast again,
But with what I know, that could only end badly.
