Marilyn
Wide-eyed and bright,
She walks in the door,
Up to the stage and into the light
She breathes deep
In and out, in and out
And begins
Step one and two
Three, then four
Then lets out a glorious, single note
A high-pitched perfection
With wholesome innocence galore
She draws attention
Heads turn:
One and two
Three, then four
She continues her dance,
A naïve romance
With twirls and spins,
Giggle and grins,
She steals the spotlight.
Her golden curls
Flounce and bounce
As she whirls around in experience anew.
She catches every man’s eye.
Every one in the room.
She does not notice.
She simply dances,
Twirls and spins,
Giggles and grins,
Careless and Carefree
As much as a girl could be.
Will she get the spot?
We shall see,
We shall see.
