Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. ~Ernest Hemingway

She has the Chemical
Chemical X
It’s not that she’s tall
& it isn’t her sex.

You don’t fall for her, she pushes you down.
She’s like the sea, swim too far out and you’ll drown.

Often lost are the souls she seduces in secret.
It’s the Chemical in her; they can’t help but seek it.

She has your trust. Or does she? It’s hazy.
You don’t know all this time she’s been making you crazy.

She knows what she’s doing,
And she knows that it drains you.
The words she’s misconstruing,
You don’t know what’s true, do you?

They want it so they follow.
They don’t know, they don’t know.

She’ll make you slip under
& no one will wonder

If you’re sick

Or you’re sad.

If it’s a trick

Or it’s planned,
Because they want it too.
They all do.

You don’t wish that you didn’t.
You never even hid it.
You know she has you now
You’ll get away if she allows.

It’s the way of the trade.
It’s her little game.
You want to stay
You don’t feel swayed
She makes you feel high
She plays with your mind
& you lie.

Tell yourself that it’s good
But it hurts
You think that you should
‘Til she turns

& She’s gone
As she was all along.
She took the chemical too.

Where are you?
