The storm

I try to prevent the rain,
but it is inevitable,
the water was calm, nice, cool,
then all of a sudden it came, the storm,
No one ever thought it would rain so soon,
the storm had come a few times before, it was not too long ago,
the birds were singing, the children were laughing and playing footsies,
the fathers would run out into the meadows with their wives,
picking flowers as they went,
but then I woke up, and it was raining
