The Same Light
Here I am alone again, with darkness to accompany me as my only friend
Take me back to the night you whispered in my ear
Telling me not to go as I felt your warm, unsteady breath hit my neck
I’ll take myself back to this very spot to try to bring back that night
To where it was just you and me, but not technically
You told me you loved me under that soft, warm light
The same light that attracted me to you
The same light in your eyes that gripped my heart like a vice
But that light burned out a long time ago
The same light that brought us close tore us apart
The seams still tear in my heart, while you tear seams in your bills as you cast
Them away in your purse, just like you cast away me while I fought men I never
Knew for you, doing things I never thought I was capable to do
I’ve got blood under these weary nails
Less comparing to yours with the remnants of his skin cells
Trails of blood on this city street we leave as you smile happily
Amber eyes burn through me with uncertainty
I’m tired of only seeing my reflection in your eyes
I swore to stick this out and you abandoned me
You let me go when I clung too tightly
Hand held happiness has brought us here
It took led ripping through me to realize you did this
When you return to the same light that drew me in
You’ll turn away to find it burnt out
That’s what’s become of me
A legacy of a man I told myself I would never become to be
