What happens when the power goes out?
I like to think that I’d be ok,
That I’d survive without the luxuries electricity brings.
But what about others?

Others who have diabetes and need insulin.
Or people who require pace makers to keep their heart beating?
They couldn’t survive without the luxuries electricity brings.
What about the government?

Who will lead us in a time of the unknown?
Or will they take control and dement the democracy of America?
Those who have been put away for past crimes will become free.
Who is to stop them from committing those atrocious crimes again?

People will survive and others will not.
That’s the cruel way of nature and the survival of the fittest.
The elderly will fall without their caregivers.
Who will take care of the Alzheimer’s ridden grandmother?

Where will the pain medication come for the grandfather fighting cancer?
People of all ages will starve for most only know a grocery store.
The knowledge of the past has been forgotten.
Leaving future generations to fend for themselves.

People will lose their humanity along with their possessions.
So much will be lost like any other casualty of war.
The world we live in is frightening.
But what will happen to it when the power goes out?

The author's comments:
I wrote this about a book I read that really influenced me. The book "One Second After" by William Forstchen made me think about the scary truth, the power really could go out.I hope that people who read this might check the book out. But I will warn you, it's scary.
