Taking Flight
The little pieces of paper fall slowly, swaying in mid-air.
I watch as everything I had once known disappears with a single tear.
I gave up, I gave in, I let it all go.
Hide in the shadows, forgive me, I have nothing left to show.
The last balloon floats off as the string slips away.
I try to focus, to concentrate, but my thoughts continue to stray.
I hear that everything will be okay, that things will work out.
The answers I need must take a different route.
Hold it in, be strong, and stand tall.
I try and try again, but I continue to struggle and fall.
Shut my eyes, it'll all be put to rest.
But I know it will continue to stay; a knot forms in my chest.
I ripped it, I shred it, I watched it drift into the dark.
I threw water on what I knew would be a spark.
I'm a bird with a broken wing attempting to take flight.
I wish I could go back and make everything right.
