The Catch
Every time I see my mitt
curled up in the dusty garage corner
I remember my time
my time when I won the big game
I was the hero
I remember standing in the green grass
the shining sun making my eyes squint
my knees shaking with fear
I pound my hand into my mitt telling myself its coming my way
I hear the whack of the bat echo throughout the battle field
I remember seeing the yellow ball flying through the air
its coming my way
I track it down with my eager eyes
the sun my worst enemy
My mind began to race
Will it fall short?
Is it to the right?
Is it to the left?
I remember the lightning yellow ball begin to curve to the side of where my body stood
I sprint, mitt tucked in like a running back going through a crowd of defense
Will I get it?
My feet left the ground
Time to jump off the diving board
I remember hearing the thump in my mitt
My body hits the ground
mud on my face
mud on my knees
I feel nothing
Adrenaline
I remember standing up with the wanted prize in my hand
The crowd goes wild
my teammates attack me with joy
I felt like a hero
I made the game winning catch, we won
