They never fought, so this was weird.
As he slapped her across the face, she burst into tears.
After finding the loose papers, she confronted her lover
He asked her why she was so nosey, than began shove her.
She said “promise me you’re not lying, I just need to know the truth.”
He looked at her again and shouted “I’ve never slept with a woman named Ruth.”

She made a decision without him knowing and left for her mother’s house.
She took everything with her, including her favorite blouse.

When she got to her mom’s, they went on a long walk.
Mostly there was silence, yet some occasional small talk.
“Maybe he’s not good for you, maybe it was smart of you to flee.”
But she just didn’t want to listen to her mother,
For she knew they were meant to be.

She got a call from a close friend,
He was hit by a drunk driver late last night.
Rumor has it he was on his way to see her,
And after hearing that, she thought of their last fight.

She couldn’t believe this was her new reality,
More guilt set in each day.
She wondered how she’d be able to go on,
As in the ground, the love of her life lay.
