i can’t dry swallow today and sugar
won’t make it go down sweetly—
i’m regurgitating truth, bitter bitter
burning my throat. why didn’t i know suffocates
apologies from three and a half years of
guessing what a smile felt like, practicing
your ballet grace and hip hop effervescence in
a house of mirrors; i won’t take a pill because
i never knew you did.
